Psychology
-------------------------------------------------
A truly great title but as he says in the introduction, nothing to do with the book ! Overall, the objective of this study is to try to highlight the causes / sources of malevolent behaviour in society and to give some method to understand this behaviour. Sadly, after a very strong and interesting first chapter, the book slowly becomes a bit of an "ego fest" becoming more concerned with how Dr Goldberg has worked with his patients and his own views on malevolence rather than giving any great understanding. I got the impression that the only way this book would get published was if there was something contentious in it and Dr Goldberg never failed to point out how much he was against "conventional" thinking on this subject. Add to this that those parts that are incisive / thought provoking or helped to give an understanding of the problem are swamped in between comparatively useless text "padding" and it makes it a very heavy read. The book could have been reduced by over 80% and possibly become a classic. As it is, its just hard work.
